iHola! Hi Everyone. I´ve been in Mexico for two months already! Many of you have asked me to send you pictures of where I´m living. I thought it would be easiest if I wrote a blog to give you a little background on where I am and what I’m doing. 😊

This is my swearing in ceremony in Querétaro, Mexico in January.

These are the people I´m working with in Tehuacán. The woman on my right works for the Reserva Biofera Tehuacán – Cuicatlán and the man on my left is the president of the salt Cooperative.

I work in Tehuacán in the Reserva Biosfera Tehuacán Cuititlan. It’s just a 20 minute walk from my house. I can make it in 15!
Life in Tehuacán

I was a little anxious about coming to live in Tehuacán but I actually feel pretty safe around town. I only feel unsafe during the day when I cross the street! Drivers don´t generally stop at stop signs and rarely look at who might be in the crosswalk when they turn right. If I go out at night and need to find a way home I take an Uber, only here it´s called Pronto.

This my church, St. Carmen. I can understand about 80 percent of the mass. Poco a poco!

This is my house mom, Arecelli. She has a 23 year old daughter and 23 year old niece who live with us.

The market is really great! This is the largest market in Tehuacán and is only open on Saturdays. It´s fun going around to the different stands to see how much their produce is. I am always in search of the best bananas and the perfect avocado.

I have found a new favorite food! Memelitas! They are small corn tortillas cooked over a hot surface. There is a definite art to making memelitas. There are different sauces, red and green, haha. I’m sure there is a name for them but I haven’t learned it yet. Then they add beans, onions, and cheese. YUM! I can get two for 15 pesos (74 cents).

I found this Sunday breakfast market while taking a walk. There were at least 50 people here enjoying their tortillas, memelitas and beans.

Family get togethers are a big part of life here. The first family I stayed with invited me to family breakfasts, lunches, and late night suppers.

These last pictures are from the square or plaza in front of the cathedral. All Mexican towns have a plaza in front of the the cathedral, where people get together, shop, have coffee or ice cream, etc. There is usually live music there on the weekends.😊
I miss everyone, especially my boys. I am really enjoying the experience of learning a new culture and working on improving my Spanish. However, it has been an adjustment adapting to their work style and hours. I would love to meet up with you anywhere in Mexico! I’ll be here until the end of August.
Love, Allison xxoo
